Beginner Scuba Diving Courses

If you are new to scuba, the first decision is simple: do you want to try one guided experience, earn a shorter supervised certification, or complete the full PADI Open Water Diver course? These are the main beginner paths Scuba Libre offers in Playa del Carmen.

Beginner scuba diver training in Playa del Carmen

Choosing the Right First Course

Discover Scuba Diving is the easiest way to try scuba without committing to a full certification. It is a supervised introduction, not a full diving license.

PADI Scuba Diver is a shorter certification path for people with limited time who expect to keep diving with a professional guide. PADI Open Water Diver is the full first certification and the normal choice if you want to keep diving while traveling.

If you already started training somewhere else, the referral option can help you finish the remaining parts. If you are already certified but rusty, the Scuba Review is the better starting point before booking regular dives.

Try Scuba First

Best for first-timers who want to see how scuba feels before choosing a full course.

Short Certification

Good for limited vacation time, with future dives made under professional supervision.

Full Certification

The first full scuba certification for people who want to continue diving after the trip.

Referral or Review

Useful if you started elsewhere or have not been diving for a while.

The Main Course: PADI Open Water Diver

Discover Scuba is a good taste of scuba, but PADI Open Water Diver is the real beginner certification most people mean when they say they want to learn to dive.

This is the course that gives new divers the foundation: equipment setup, basic dive skills, buoyancy, safety habits, dive planning and supervised open water training. If someone wants to keep diving after Playa del Carmen, this is usually the course to look at first.

With Scuba Libre, Open Water e-learning is included directly, and the digital materials are the e-learning. It is strongly recommended to complete the e-learning before arriving.

After the e-learning is finished, plan on two practical training days with Scuba Libre. If your schedule allows, keep a third extra day open in case of bad weather, delays or if the student is not feeling well.
