General
Not for every activity. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or a beginner PADI course. Certified divers can book reef dives, cenote dives, Cozumel trips and specialty experiences.
Start with Discover Scuba Diving if you want to try it, or choose a beginner certification course if you want to become certified. If you are unsure, contact Scuba Libre on WhatsApp and they can point you to the right option.
Choose a course if you want training or certification. Choose a dive trip if you are already certified and want to dive reefs, cenotes, Cozumel, bull sharks or night dives.
Some activities are good for non-divers, especially snorkeling tours, companion options and water activities. For dive boat or cenote companion questions, confirm before booking because it depends on the trip.
Scuba Libre has four Playa del Carmen locations: Downtown, Sandos Caracol Eco Resort, Sandos Playacar Resort and Palmaia House of AiA.
Courses
If you only want to try scuba, Discover Scuba Diving is the simplest starting point. If you want certification, look at PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver.
PADI Open Water is the standard first full scuba certification for many new divers. Scuba Libre offers Open Water options, including an after e-learning version for people who complete theory before arriving.
E-learning means part of the course theory is completed online before the in-water training. It can help visitors save vacation time once they arrive in Playa del Carmen.
A referral course is for students who have already completed part of their Open Water training elsewhere and want to finish the remaining sections with Scuba Libre.
A scuba review is for certified divers who have not dived for a while and want to refresh knowledge and skills before joining regular dives.
Some PADI training requires digital materials and certification processing. That is why the PADI Digital Material & Certification item appears on the course pages. Confirm what applies to your specific course when booking.
Yes. Certified divers can continue with Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, specialty courses or professional training such as Divemaster.
Certified Dives
Most local reef dives are for certified divers. The exact requirement depends on the dive and conditions, so check the product card and confirm if you are unsure.
Yes. Bring your physical certification card or digital proof, plus any recent dive information if you have it.
Usually yes, but a scuba review may be the better choice if it has been months or years. That keeps the first dive safer and more comfortable.
You do not need to assume that. Many dive shops can provide equipment, but exactly what is included should be confirmed on the specific product or by WhatsApp before booking.
Dive sites can depend on weather, sea conditions, certification level and safety decisions on the day. The team can explain the best current options when you book.
Cenotes
Cenote diving is generally for certified divers. Some cenote-related snorkeling or companion options may be available for non-divers.
It depends on the cenote. Some are more suitable for regular Open Water divers, while deeper or more advanced cenotes may require Advanced Open Water or more experience.
Some cenotes are open and spacious, while others feel more cavern-like. If you are nervous about overhead environments, ask Scuba Libre which cenote option fits your comfort level.
Sometimes companions can join a cenote day, and there is also a Cenote Divers Companions option listed on the site. Confirm before booking so the logistics are clear.
Yes. Cenotes are freshwater dives with very clear water, rock formations and light effects. They feel very different from reef dives in the sea.
Seasonal Trips
Bull shark diving in Playa del Carmen is seasonal, usually around November to March, depending on conditions and the season. Confirm current availability before booking.
Whale shark snorkeling is seasonal, usually around June to September, depending on official dates and conditions. Confirm before planning your day around it.
Weather and sea conditions can affect diving and snorkeling. The team may adjust sites, timing or recommendations for safety. Exact policies should be confirmed when booking.
Booking and Logistics
Use the Book Now buttons on the course and tour pages, or contact Scuba Libre by WhatsApp if you need help choosing the right activity.
Yes. WhatsApp is a good option if you are unsure which course, dive or activity fits your certification level, travel dates or group.
Bring swimwear, towel, sun protection, certification proof if you are certified, and any personal gear you prefer to use. For specific trips, confirm if anything else is needed.
For courses, cenotes, Cozumel, bull sharks, whale sharks and private trips, booking ahead is usually smarter because space, instructors, boats and seasonality matter.
The product cards on this website show prices in USD. If you need payment details, currency options or current pricing confirmation, ask before booking.
Meeting point can depend on the activity and location. Scuba Libre has multiple Playa del Carmen locations, so confirm the exact meeting place after booking.
